God Calls Light into Existence

Have you ever asked God to give you discernment with making a tough decision? Have you prayed for guidance while traversing a dark and difficult path? Perhaps, you simply asked for the Lord’s leading through an unknown future. And then, the light bulb came on. The answer came into focus with clarity, and you understood that God had spoken to you. Your enlightenment arose from the presence of the Spirit of God dwelling within your soul.

The phrase, God said, is used nine times in this creation account. God said means God willed. Each time it’s used, an immediate result follows. The mode of God’s creative power is Divine speech.

In the beginning when only darkness appeared, God speaks, and his will is accomplished. This, without employing a special process or method, and without utilizing assistance from other sources. At the mere utterance of God’s word, the dense accumulation of vapors forming thick murky clouds dispersed, and light diffused over the great expanse of waters. By God’s command, light became visible. Only his word was necessary. Simply by speaking, the Supreme One willed light into being.

Light is the first thing created by God. Without light, no plants or animals could survive on earth. All organic life depends upon light and the warmth it provides. In the field of natural science, a generally accepted truth is that light does not proceed from the sun and stars. Rather, the sun is a dark body with the light springing forth from the atmosphere surrounding it. Even before the sun and stars came into being, only God’s word was needed to create light.

God created human beings to share a unique relationship with him. As light is the first thing created from the dark chaos, so light is the first thing produced by the work of grace in the human soul. The first task the Creator performs is to prepare a way to commune with his intelligent creatures. By faith, His Spirit comes to abide with them, enlightening their understanding of his perfect will for them. They are spoken to directly by the Creator, resulting in the transformation of their thoughts, affections, and their will to act.

Humankind resembles its Creator. God created us in his image and according to his likeness. As human beings, we possess God’s many traits and attributes. We can become more like our Creator if we are connected to him spiritually and allow him to lead us.

Throughout the New Testament of the Bible, light symbolizes the presence of Divinity. I have learned to depend upon the Spirit’s power to enlighten. Today, I would feel totally lost without the guiding Presence of the Holy One to lead me. Does some area of your life seem shrouded in darkness? Is there some situation that you can’t see your way out of? Do you want to leave behind a season, or a life, of blind stumbling? Pray for clarity in the way to move forward, asking the Spirit of God to speak light into your current existence.
