Intuition Takes God’s Call

Have you ever sensed that God communicated with you? You knew he spoke to you? You knew you heard his voice? Your spiritual intuition took that call.

Our Creator desires to communicate with us, his created beings. God is not so distant and unapproachable. No! He is near and very accessible. He does not speak audibly to us today, but we sense his words to us in our spirit. God created the human spirit with some basic functions. He makes himself known to us through intuition, the sensing and knowing function of our spirit. Through spiritual intuition, God’s Spirit speaks to our spirit. Truly awesome!

God makes known his nature. Moses asked God his name. God provided three: I AM WHO I AM, I AM and YHWH. In our modern English Bibles, the traditional I AM WHO I AM is translated as LORD. Many Bible scholars agree that Yahweh, a more modern way of writing the ancient Hebrew YHWH and sometimes written as Jehovah, most likely means he brings into existence whatever exists. All three of these names—Yahweh, Jehovah and LORD—make known what God is. He is the self-existent one who brings all else into existence. The LORD has his being of himself and he gives being to all of creation.

God makes known his love. Most Bible scholars further accept that YHWH was put together by joining Y, meaning he, plus HWY, the root of the words that not only mean being, but also becoming. He who becomes is attested to in a few places in the Bible as he who shows himself (Psalm 50:1). This meaning for Yahweh originated as a description for his appearance and blessing. So, the LORD reveals himself to his created beings in order to become known and he makes himself known because of his love. There is nothing we can do to deserve God’s love and there is nothing we can do to prevent him from making his love known to us.

God makes known his will. God’s Spirit is present and active in our world. And, his Spirit works together with the Scriptures to reveal God’s nature, communicate his love and bring conviction of his truths. One Bible scholar says the name Yahweh appears 6,823 times in the Old Testament and also many times in the New Testament to quote or paraphrase Old Testament passages. The name is commonly associated with God’s holiness, his hatred of sin and his provision of redemption. When we hear his words in the bible, the Spirit illuminates them so that we gain understanding.

God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.” God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you. This is my eternal name, my name to remember for all generations. Exodus 3:14-15

God speaks to us through spiritual intuition. Are you nurturing your spiritual life, cultivating a space for communication to flow from God’s Spirit to your spirit? May you be blessed with a growing knowledge of him.

In a future post, I’ll discuss causes of not hearing the intuitive voice.
